A patient-led video platform that aims to improve diabetes care has been launched in full partnership with Leeds Children’s Hospital.
Diabetes care has traditionally been via regular NHS appointments where patients meet with their diabetes team and specialist staff. Patients are also provided with printed educational materials that can help them improve the management of their condition.
DigiBete is aimed at raising awareness of the autoimmune T1D, which causes the disease, and remove some of the barriers to good diabetes care. It has also been designed to increase support, awareness, education and training through the accessibility of online video resources.
Developed in Leeds, DigitBete owe much of its early success to the strong mentorship from digital health companies, such as Leeds-based ‘We are mHabitat’, which specialises in co-design, policy, strategy and evaluation.
NHS England has approved DigitBete.org platform as a go-to resource for children and young people with diabetes. It is now accessible in over 100 countries.
