The British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA) has confirmed the re-launch of many beloved toys at this year’s UK Toy Fair saying that many old favourites would boost sales following the industry’s highest growth in five years in 2015.
Natasha Crookes, of the BTHA, said: "We think that for 2016 retro licences will help to sustain the growth,"
A new-look Scalextric and other retro refits are expected to add fresh sales. Other toys that will be hitting the shelves this year will include Dangermouse, Teletubbies and Noddy, which all have new TV series out this year.
According to the NPD Group, toy industry analysts, the sales of movie-related toys were up to 27per cent this year due to the success of Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Minions. Sales of building sets and soft toys grew by 14per cent while sales of action figures increased by 20per cent.
Frederique Tutt of the NPD said: "What is interesting about the 2015 performance is the lasting endurance of traditional toys such as building sets and action figures."
