A £200,000 scheme has seen analog cameras in Craigneuk, Wishaw, replaced with new high definition IP cameras that offer significantly clearer images and perform well both during day and night.
The significant CCTV investment, which has been welcomed by residents, covers six sites across North Lanarkshire, including those identified by police as important areas to monitor.
Craigneuk councillor Kenneth Duffy said: “This is great news for the area, including the additional Police resource. It is essential that everyone feels safe.
“I will continue to meet with the police and partner agencies to focus on improving the safety in Craigneuk.”
Inspector Alan Mulholland added: “We have been working hard over the last few months to provide reassurance to the community in Craigneuk by carrying out intelligence led policing to deal with issues such as disorder, weapon carrying and problematic households.
“The HD CCTV cameras are a welcome boost to the safety of local people and provide us with excellent footage for review if looking to identify offenders.
