Kardashian decides to end marriage after 72 days...

Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from husband Kris Humphries after just 72 days, it has been revealed.

The reality television star filed court documents which cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason and listed the date of separation as October 31, according to TMZ.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has now released a statement confirming that she was the one to make the decision to end the marriage, which read:

"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned.

"We remain friends and wish each other the best."

Basketball star Humphries also released a statement which revealed that he remains committed to his marriage:

"I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

It has been reported that Kardashian will be represented in the divorce proceedings by attorney Laura Wasser, who handled the divorces of Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears and Ryan Reynolds.

Court documents reveal that she will not be seeking spousal support from Humphries.

The marriage was the first for Kris but the second for Kim, who was previously married to music producer Damon Thomas.
