Kidman named national Oz treasure

The National Trust of Australia have named Nicole Kidman as a "Living National Treasure".

The National Trust of Australia have named Nicole Kidman as a "Living National Treasure".

Cricketer Steve Waugh, Hollywood bad boy Russell Crowe, New South Wales Governor Marie Bashir and tennis player Patrick Rafter were also named National Living Treasures on Sunday.

Thousands of Australians voted in the poll to add 15 new Living National Treasures to the list. The new treasures replace those who have died since 1997, when the accolade was introduced.

Chairman of the Living National Treasures Committee, Michael Ball, explained: "We felt it was time to revive the list through [a] democratic process which attracted thousands of votes."
