Keighley Town Council chairman Cllr Michael Westernman has been left fuming after a CCTV camera in Parson Street was vandalised. A taxi driver reported that the camera, which overlooked a playground, has disappeared several weeks ago. The Bradford Council spokesman said that it was destroyed by vandals beyond economic repair.
He said: “The council currently do not have any funding allocated to provision of a replacement camera as we are reviewing the suitability of this location for continued CCTV coverage.
“Once a decision has been taken on this any replacement would be subject to the usual budget allocation process.”
Cllr Westerman, a former town mayor, responded saying: “I’m flabbergasted about Bradford saying they can’t afford to replace it – they can claim on their insurance.
“The council’s Keighley Area Committee came cap-in-hand to look at the town council to buy the camera, so they should look after it.
“I’m fuming that Bradford say they’re ‘trying to find a suitable place’. When it was our money Parson Street was a suitable place, when they’re spending their own money it isn’t.”
