A widely-known health advice urges people in London to get off the train a few stops early to walk home to stay fit. To encourage more people, a new London Underground Tube map is now being used showing the amount of calories that can be burn by walking between stops.
Research has shown that traveling from Oxford to Circus to Piccadilly Circus on the Tube takes about four minutes. However, 11-minute walk would burn 42 calories. Meanwhile, walking from London Bridge to Tower Hill could help you burn 46 calories.
GP Wayne Osborne, who put together the map for Treated.com, said: “If you want an economical way to get in shape, and lower your risk of serious illness, then hopping off the tube one or two stops early and walking the rest of the way is a great way to keep fit and burn off some extra calories."
According to NHS, walking prevents the risk of chronic diseases including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, strokes, and some cancers.
