Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati is to swap Weatherfield for the more exotic world of the Australian jungle, the Sunday Mirror claims.

The actress, who plays Sunita Alahan in the soap, will reportedly be jetting Down Under to take part in the latest series of the reality show, I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!

An unnamed friend of the star said the actress was "over the moon" after being selected to appear in the show.

The news is reportedly helping Gulati to cope after the alleged decision of Corrie producer Steve Frost to axe her character Sunita from the ITV1 soap.

She was also recently dumped by her boyfriend, former DJ Chris Nelson.

"Shobna is keeping her good news a big secret - but she's over the moon. Her whole world came crashing down on her when she lost her Corrie job - and her man too," the unnamed insider told the Sunday Mirror.

"So you can imagine her relief and joy when she was told the good news about being selected for ITV's I'm A Celebrity," the source added.

The Sunday Mirror claims former A-Team star Mr T, writer Toby Young and former MP Ron Davies are also set to appear in the extreme reality show alongside Gulati.
