Actor Brad Pitt has said he is "very saddened" that his wife Angeline Jolie has filed for divorce.

Actor Brad Pitt has released a statement following news that his wife of two years, Angelina Jolie, has filed for divorce. In a statement, he said: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

 

Jolie, 41, filed for divorce from Pitt, 52, citing irreconcilable differences. Her lawyer, Robert Offer, said that Jolie’s decision had been made “for the health of the family.”

 

Jolie is asking for physical custody of the kids and asking the judge to give Pitt visitation rights. There had been numerous speculations about the split, with one newspaper claiming that Jolie was “upset with Pitt’s parenting skills.”

 

Pitt and Jolie met on the set of 2005 film Mr and Mrs Smith. They married in 2014. Pitt was previously married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston. Jolie, on the other hand, was previously married to Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

 

Jolie and Pitt most recently worked together on 2015 film By the Sea, a relationship drama about a couple trying to repair their marriage.
