Jessica Simpson is set to adopt a baby.

The reality TV star, who is married to singer Nick Lachey, has been determined to become a mother to a needy child ever since her plans to adopt were scotched as a teenager.

The sexy blonde said she visited a Mexican orphanage at the age of 16 while on holiday and desperately wanted to smuggle a baby home.

Jessica told America's The Globe newspaper: "That's what I wanted for my birthday but I couldn't legally get a baby across the Mexican border."

The singer says she now wants to realise her dream in the next year.

She added: "I'll end up doing something which will touch somebody in some way that's good through orphanages."

Earlier this month, Jessica, a pastor's daughter, was slammed by a Christian group, who branded her latest video "slutty".

The religious organisation, known as 'The Resistance', wanted her to re-shoot a 'clean' version of the promo for 'These Boots Were Made For Walking' in which Jessica is seen seductively washing a car in a skimpy pink bikini and writhing around on the laps of old men.

The Resistance's spokesman John Conner said: "It's sad to see her whore herself out like this."
