It has been reported that singer Katie Melua was recently admitted to hospital after having a “breakdown”.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the star’s dedication to her work led her to become “very unwell” and that she had to take it easy for a bit.
The 26-year-old, who was BritainÂ’s best-selling female musician just four years ago, told the publication:
“I’ve had a bit of a breakdown and been very unwell.’
“ItÂ’s a very sensitive Âsubject. I donÂ’t want to go into a lot of detail, but I had to drop out for a bit.”
Katie, who was born in Georgia, then part of the Soviet Union, continued, saying:
“The fact is I just couldn’t go on any longer. I knew there was something seriously wrong because I was just sitting in a chair staring into space.
“I had to drop out, go on Âholiday and have a rest. The problem is that I love what IÂ’m doing and I canÂ’t stop doing it. But I was working myself into the ground.”
Melua stormed the charts in 2003 with her debut single, The Closest Thing to Crazy, and she has since performed for the Queen and Nelson Mandela.
