How to find the right people for IoT

As the Internet of Things (IoT) continues to influence and play a bigger role in different industries, finding the right people and creating a strong team with the right IoT skills becomes a real challenge for many organisations.

 

Businesses need a group of IoT experts who can cover a number of specialisms across the entire software stack from low-level embedded code to machine learning capabilities both at the edge and in the cloud. Some of these will require skills that weren’t previously needed or even available.

 

Based on a research, 68per cent of IoT professionals are struggling to hire employees with skills in analytics and big data, which is critical in gathering, analysing and potentially monetizing the vast amounts of data produced by IoT devices.  

 

As IoT grows further, more and more jobs will be created, including CloTOs and IoT business designers. The demand for chief data officers, IoT architects and security consultants is also expected to increase. However, as the needs in IoT constantly change, businesses are not in a position to hire at scale. Instead, they have to decide if some or all the skills they need can be outsourced at least in the short term.
