Works to build a full fibre network to bring fast, reliable broadband connection to Crawley residents are now underway following a £23million investment. The scheme is part of CityFibre's plan to replace the country's copper-based networks with gigabit-capable full fibre connectivity.
Superfast broadband is expected to boost business productivity and innovation, provide a platform for a new generation of "smart city" applications, deliver millions in economic benefits and usher the way for the roll-out of 5G mobile devices.
Adrian Smith, the appointed city manager by CityFibre for the project, said: “It’s really exciting to be part of CityFibre’s gigabit revolution – CityFibre is doing everything it can to transform towns and cities across the country. Our digital infrastructure plays a crucial role in growing and protecting local economies, even more so during these unprecedented times when connectivity has proven vital to residents, businesses and public services alike.”
Councillor Peter Smith, Cabinet member for Planning and Economic Development at Crawley Borough Council, said:
“When our public service network investment is placed alongside CityFibre’s private Fibre to the Home and Business project, it demonstrates the desire of all concerned to deliver a world-class digital infrastructure for Crawley, ahead of many other places.
“This transformation will give Crawley businesses a competitive advantage while providing residents gigabit speeds directly into their home.”
