More than one third of the population are having trouble falling or staying asleep, making nighttime wakefulness huge problem. This typically leads to various health problems including fatigue, irritability, and changes in mood, weight, and even blood pressure.
Cope up with insomnia by following these tips:
1. Resist the urge of pressing that snooze button. Get up as soon as your alarm goes off. Sleep specialist Michael Breus explaines: "The circadian rhythms that govern your internal timer want you to wake when the alarm sounds - the first time. Retreat back into sleep however and these rhythms get thrown off".
2. Drink water as soon as you wake up and eat breakfast so you’ll have energy to survive the morning.
3. Exercise. Exercise is always good for the body. It releases endorphins which make you feel good and more alert.
4. Drink your coffee – but don’t overdo it. Coffee will keep you awake throughout the day but remember that you shouldn’t consume more than four cups of coffee per day.
5. Tackle the hardest tasks in your to-do list as soon you start working. Orfeu Buxton, a professor of sleep medicine at Harvard Medical School says 'get critical tasks out of the way first' because this is the time of the day that you’re most awake.
6. Stand up and stretch your arms and legs often.
