During the past calendar year, the entire globe has been affected by a pandemic caused by Covid-19 and has therefore been forced into some forms of lockdown to help combat the spread of the virus. Although the majority of business around the world have been affected negatively during this period, there has been some businesses that have benefitted from the lockdown period and below we look at why.

 

Hand-sanitizing and personal protection equipment companies have certainly been the winners of the pandemic as many of us were unfamiliar with these types of products pre-lockdown however now, we can’t go anywhere without the use of these types of products now-a-days. At the beginning of the pandemic, there was a shortage of these types of products and so the industry worked tirelessly to hit the demand required and have so benefitted from the pandemic.

 

Online e-commerce since the start of the pandemic has also gone through the roof now as many consumers found themselves in lockdown only being able to use online alternative to order. One of the biggest winners in this particular field was Amazon who have become the e-commerce giant during the pandemic and have since reported a huge increase in sales during this period. Even though we are starting to see the end of the pandemic due to the vaccine, we still expect Amazon sales to rise as the years go on.

 

Another industry that has been able to benefit from the pandemic and lockdown is the online entertainment business in which has provided entertainment for consumers whilst they are lockdowned at home. Companies like Netflix and Disney+ have provided hours of content for consumers to view whilst they are stuck at home. This has further provided a demographic for the future of the entertainment business as we are starting to see more and more consumers move away from the cable tv and use online alternative like Netflix and Disney+ which not only cost less but have more in terms of library and content.

 

And finally, the gaming and gambling world is another industry that has continued to flourish at its rapid rate during lockdown as another way of staying entertained during this period. Gamers have had the release of the new consoles including the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X which has displayed a boom for the industry.
