Indian consulate under attack in Afghanistan's Herat; gunmen killed, diplomats safe
All four gunmen were killed after the attack.

Four gunmen, armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, attacked the Indian consulate in Afghanistan. They opened fire on the consulate from a nearby home as confirmed by the police.
No diplomatic staff was injured while all the four attackers were gunned down after the attack.
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) chief Subhas Goswami said: "One terrorist was killed by ITBP personnel while three have been killed by Afghan forces. The attack has been successfully repulsed.” He added that they have prepared for the attack. "We have been on alert. Our sister agencies have been providing intelligence inputs regularly about sabotage activities against us in Afghanistan. We have asked all our units to be on alert and vigilant.”
Meanwhile, Afghan President Hamid Harzal assured Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi that the country “will do all to protect Indian missions here.”
Modi, on the other hand has condemned the attack. He posted on Twitter: "I condemn the attack on our consulate in Herat, Afghanistan. Closely monitoring the situation. I have spoken to the Ambassador as well.”
