Ticket marketplace Viagogo has revealed that A Streetcar Named Desire is the hottest West End ticket of the summer.
Aside from huge ticket demand for the show itself, Gillian Anderson’s central performance as Blanche DuBois has also received rave reviews. Viagogo said that ticket searches have increased by as much as 219% as theatre lovers hoped to book front row seats.
Meanwhile, Sir David Hare’s show Skylight starring Bill Nighy and Carey Mulligan has seen demand soar by 187per cent since opening. The Crucible, another high-profile production, based on Arthur Miller’s tale of 17th century religious paranoia, has seen a 163per cent increase in ticket demand since it opened at The Old Vic.
A Viagogo spokesperson said: "We've already seen unprecedented demand for theatre tickets this summer, with a host of West End productions featuring star turns from the likes of Gillian Anderson and Carey Mulligan garnering rave reviews from critics.
"We predict that demand will truly skyrocket when the most hotly anticipated show of them all – Benedict Cumberbatch's Hamlet – goes on sale next week.
"We expect demand for Hamlet to exceed all of this summer’s plays put together."
