Ilkley CCTV Costings
CCTV installation in Ilkley can cost £10 per household.
21:46 07 July 2018
The purchase and installation of CCTV cameras around Ilkley can cost each household £10 if the council decides to go ahead and pay for the project. A petition calling for the use of CCTV in the town has been rejected by Bradford Council after it was told that the cost would be £100,000 rather than the original estimate of £60,000.
Other than the cost of the cameras and their installation, other issues that were raised at the meeting are the ongoing commitment of funding the scheme and the need to assess future financial obligations, which Cllr Joanne Sugden said require a wider debate with input from the district council.
At the meeting, councillors were told that the petitions are not well supported despite the fact that everyone had been given the chance to sign. The meeting also heard that an independent contractor had come forward with an offer to install the CCTV cameras cheaply. Councillors have agreed that the issue needed looking into in more detail.
