Ilkley CCTV Camera Installation
Work to install CCTV cameras in Ilkley begins.
17:01 16 September 2021
CCTV cameras will soon be installed at Ilkley city centre following Bradford Council's approval of £100,000 investment for the scheme.
The project will see the installation of ten high-definition CCTV cameras designed to provide coverage of the key streets and venues within the town centre. The council hopes that the cameras will help in reducing the crime rate, provide visitors and residents peace of mind while they are out and about and improve the process of gathering evidence that would be used to expedite the process of prosecuting offenders.
A Bradford Council spokesperson, said: “BT are doing some preparation work for the CCTV data lines. We have yet to agree the locations of the cameras. Proposed locations will be announced in due course.”
Councillor Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley), who is pictured here at Mill Ghyll where the work is taking place, said: "For a long time Ilkley has been the only town in the Bradford district without CCTV. There was a petition several years ago which was knocked back.
"Quite clearly we have an influx a certain times and CCTV is now certainly a necessity."
