How to Find the Perfect Car
The search for the perfect car can be exciting.
18:00 21 December 2016
You begin your car-shopping-journey by spotting car brands on the road on the way to work, in the parking lot at the grocery store and during your morning run on the open road.
Then the fun begins, you visit a couple websites, do the numbers, pop into some showrooms, smell the leather and start wondering what the best options are. Sure, you want something elegant and sexy, but you also need something practical.
Do you go for the gas-guzzling speedster or the slower, safer sudan? The diesel option or the petrol? Decisions, decisions…
We’ve come up with a few important checks to consider to help make this decision less overwhelming:
Price
Figure out your budget before you go car shopping. And we mean, really figure it out. Work out the amount you can afford, and then figure out if there is any room to up it a bit. Whenever you purchase a car there are tons of add-ons that seem super appealing, but bear in mind that having those platinum plated rims is not going to get you from point A to point B any quicker.
Figure out your financial plan, will you be paying this off, paying cash or leasing the car? Watch out for any balloon payments - that’s often how they get you!
Practicality
What will you be using the car for? Lifts for the kids? Weekend getaways? Racing friends? Make sure you decide on a vehicle that is practical for you. We recommend thinking long term too. You don’t want to be stuck with a speedy little number that can’t accommodate a baby in a year’s time.
Model
Do your homework on all the different models once you decide on a brand. Weigh up all the pros and cons of each one, test drive and make an informed decision. Ask all the questions you can think of - this is the time to make sure you’re properly informed.
Comfort
If you’re planning on spending a lot of time driving your car, make sure you choose one that’s comfortable. There’s nothing worse than sitting on an uncomfortable seat while you’re stuck in traffic.
Safety
No matter who you are, what you do, or where you’re from: safety should always come first. Make sure you understand all the safety features the vehicle has to offer before making your decision.
Fuel efficiency
This is a big one for a lot of people. If you choose to ignore this element, and simply shrug off all this talk about fuel efficiency, you might find yourself kicking yourself a few months down the line. Another thing to consider is if you’ll be opting for a diesel or petrol. This is a personal decision to make and definitely something to think carefully about.
Something that might help you decide is working out what your spend on gas or diesel will be, and taking it from there.
After sales service
Ask all the questions possible about the service or maintenance plans that the dealership offers. If you’re not happy with something, ask if they’re open to making a custom-made plan to suit your needs.
There are so many competing dealerships out there, so make sure you do your homework. We know that buying a car is not as easy as buying a truck, since there are two main types of trucking firms, the choices are not as overwhelming as that of buying a car.
Remember to take it easy, enjoy the purchase and don’t rush into any major decisions until you’re completely ready to.
Take all these pointers into consideration, take your time and you’ll make the right choice.
Safe driving!
