How to Create a Study Space at your PG in Chennai for Exam Season
You may have thought that the pandemic was bad enough to deal with.

But when you are studying in one of the best colleges in Chennai and they’re insistent on holding exams, it is tougher still. It’s been ages since you opened a textbook or actually paid attention in your online classes. After all, it’s hard to focus when you’re by yourself in a dreary paying guest room and not surrounded by classmates.
So, how do you get yourself ready to revise for exams? Well, creating a study space for yourself while you’re living as a paying guest in Chennai can make a world of difference. If you’ve got a designated space in your room for yourself to hit the books, you are in a great place as you’ll be able to focus a lot more and be super productive. So, if you’re ready to put your grey cells to good use, take a look.
Designate an area
If you were an actor in a play you wouldn’t just walk into a building and start reciting your lines. You’d have a stage, a backdrop, a score, costumes - in short, you’d set the scene. And that’s what you need to do for your study space as well. If you think you can get revision done while lying in your bed, you need to think again. In fact, it’s best to leave your bed out of the picture when you’re thinking about studying. You don’t need the added risk of falling asleep. Instead, make space for yourself at a desk, or even a corner of the floor where you can sit upright and get your work done. And don’t forget that studying is something you’ll need plenty of light for. Place your desk near a window or lamp to ensure you’re always able to do your revision in a well-lit area.
Gather your belongings
Think about being an actor again. What are the props that you need to really convince your audience? That’s how you need to think of your study space. What are the items that you need to ensure you can have a productive session without being distracted or disturbed. In general, keeping your textbooks, notes and laptop together should be a good idea. If you’re super organised, you can also go ahead and segregate your material according to subject so that you can be extra efficient. Make sure you have your charger on hand too, so you’re not forced to get up in the middle of your revision to plug your laptop in.
Minimise distractions
There’s nothing that’s quite as annoying as when you lose focus in the middle of an important task. And disturbance while you’re studying for your exams can be exactly that. That’s why it’s important to ensure that you reduce the potential for any distraction as much as possible. Shut the door to your room to prevent any noise filtering in, clean your desk and study area so you’re not distracted by any clutter, turn off or silence your notifications so that you’re not tempted to keep scrolling through your phone. And if you’re still finding it too difficult to focus, you can rely on something like the Pomodoro technique to maximise your productivity and allow yourself small breaks.
Make a time-table
Studying is great, but organised studying is even better. You don’t want to be haphazard with your revision or just read what you like when it comes to preparing for exams. That way, you could end up going over the same concepts multiple times and missing out on your basics altogether. Instead, create a timetable for your revision and actually follow it. The best way to do that is to set realistic goals. If you say that you’re going to study for four hour stretches, you’re obviously not going to be able to keep up, but if you decide to schedule forty five-minute revision sessions, you’re much more likely to hit your targets. Draw up a timetable (make sure you’re allocating plenty of time to all your subjects) and hang it up somewhere within your eye line so that you don’t forget. If you’re living in a professionally managed accommodation like Stanza Living, this will be really easy as their rooms come with an ergonomic study table set up, plenty of shelves in which to store all your study materials, and a pin-board on which you can stick your personalised schedule. Now that’s a recipe for success.
And it’s that easy to create a study space that’s guaranteed to help you study better and ace your exam revision. Go ahead and put it (and yourself) to the test. All the best!
