If you’re thinking of getting started with smart home automation, the best way to start is to take advantage of Amazon Alexa. This is a voice-controlled speaker that you can use to play music, get information off of the internet, play games and do online shopping, among many other things.
To get started, all you have to do is get a few compatible gadgets, switches and plugs. Most of which can be installed without the help of electricians and carpenters.
If you have compatible smart bulbs from Philips or Syska, you can fit them on a regular socket and they’ll be good to go. You can then ask Alexa to change their colours, dim them or make them brighter depending on your needs without lifting a finger.
You can also control your smart appliances using Alexa. Simply get smart sockets, such as Veetar, Oakter or Pert kits that can be retrofitted into existing plug point in your home. These connect to Alexa through your home’s wireless network to provide you complete voice control over switches on which appliances are connected.
Alexa also allows you to automate routines by synchronising actions between smart home devices and Echo. With this, you don’t need to perform a number of tasks individually. For example, by simply saying, Alexa, goodnight!, Alexa will turn off the lights, lock the doors, turn off the TV and turn off any appliances that are not being used.
