In 2015, the government announced that it was going to invest £40 million in the technology with the goal to make the UK an international leader in innovative technologies.
So far, London has been a leader in the implementation of urban innovations for its citizens. One of its groundbreaking IoT projects is the creation of NHS testbed for patients with dementia. The program significantly improves support not just for dementia patients but also for their carers. It involves the use of connected devices designed to help clinicians monitor their patient’s safety and wellbeing while they’re at home.
Another great IoT project in London involves air quality monitoring. With recent alarming C02 emissions originating from London and air pollution now becoming the world’s fourth-leading fatal health risks, London is using IoT together with mobile and big data technologies. Based on data gathered by IoT sensors, local government officials can understand and predict air quality. This allows them to make informed decisions to implement new solutions to improve health prospects for its citizens.
