How IoT Companies Can Protect Users
What IoT companies can do to protect users data in the age of smart homes and clouds.

As we move towards integrating our devices and connected smart home devices, we become more and more reliant to cloud for data storage. Although this solution offers convenience, it may pose threat to end-users if companies that manufacture smart devices fail to take measures to protect end-user data.
Over the years, the cloud business model has been proven to be risky in the smart home environment. Case in point is the huge number of data leaks over the past few years. The problem is usually caused by IoT companies’ lack of understanding of privacy and security as their main focus is usually on the design and the actual manufacturing of the devices themselves.
To better serve their customers, IoT companies must take every measure to ensure that their devices are hacker-proof. An idea is to use a microprocessor inside their devices that can be used to store and process personal data at the same time. They must also encrypt users’ sensitive data so they can be safely transported through the internet.
