Based on latest figures released by YouGov, one in every 10 Brits now own at least one voice activated virtual assistant. But how exactly do they use such devices? Do smart speakers make us smarter and do they enrich our lives?
Based on a survey participated by 1,000 smart speaker owners, 65per cent use their devices to play music or the radio while half use them for news and weather reports. Other common uses include travel updates (16.2per cent), playing audiobooks (8.2per cent), and online shopping (7per cent).
When asked how they wish their home assistant could help them, participants said they’d like their devices help make them more attractive or funnier. 21per cent said they need help with telling jokes, 10per cent said they need help improve their flirting and dating skills, while 12per cent said they want smart speakers to distract their children.
When it comes to satisfaction rating, the survey found that many customers are not entirely happy with their devices. 60per cent said that there were times the device fails to understand them properly, gives wrong answers, or does not do exactly what it needs to do.
