1 July 2015 has been officially recognised as the hottest day in the UK for nine years; it’s also the hottest July day ever recorded with temperature at London’s Heathrow Airport reaching 36.7C or 98.06F. Meanwhile, temperature in Birmingham reached 32C while Manchester was up to 29.5C and Briston hit temperatures of 30.8C.
However, South West and North East remained significantly cooler compared to other UK cities. Exeter recorded 22.5C while Swansea recorded 21.8C. On the other hand, Newcastle peaked at 22.7C by lunchtime.
Meanwhile, it was 22.6C in Dublin and 25C in Glasgow. Scotland, on the other hand, saw its warmest day of the year after recording 25.8C and Aviemore in the Highlands recorded 28.5C.
Due to the heatwave, the Met Office said that some UK cities will be hotter compared to Athens and Barcelona.
