After 18 years together, one of Hollywood’s most enduring power couples, Richard Gere and Carey Lowell, are heading for divorce. Sources say it’s because they’ve grew apart due to different lifestyles.
The 64-year-old actor is reportedly looking for more privacy while he pursues his work for ecological causes and AIDS awareness. However, his wife, a former Bond Girl enjoys “socialising with other bigwigs.”
A source quoted by the Mirror said: “They have a place in up state New York which Richard loves as it is so quiet and it brings him a lot of solitude.
“Carey likes being elsewhere in the limelight. She is very sociable and although very much respects what Richard likes she loves being around people.”
The couple who tied the knot in November 2002 after seven years of dating, have 13-year-old son. The last time they were seen together was at the Golden Globe Awards in January.
Gere was previously married to Cindy Crawford, his wife for four years. They divorced in 1995. Talking about his marriage to Carey after their secret wedding, he said: “She’s changed my life. And marriage does have meaning, if you do it from your heart. It is a milestone for us both.”
Meanwhile, Carey, 52, has been married three times. She married a fashion photographer but the marriage ended up in divorce in 1988. A year later, she married actor Griffin Dunne.
