Herndon Town Council is considering launching a Smart Cities program to upgrade its infrastructure and save on costs. Partnering with Vivacity D.C. Inc., a Delaware-based corporation, the town will explore smart city technologies that can help reduce electricity and maintenance cost, including the use of remote-controlled LED lights with radio capabilities in downtown Herndon.
The town council is also taking advantage of upgraded infrastructure, which is slated to be installed by the end of the year, to provide public WiFi and improve mobile coverage and county pedestrian traffic. The project also includes the installation of an electric vehicle charging station.
In addition, the town council is considering a proclamation to officially recognise June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month to “recognize the difficulties and prejudice the LGBTQ+ community has worked to overcome.”
