Here's who won the Scottish referendum debate TV debate

A survey conducted after the TV debate claims that Alistair Darling of the Better Together campaign gained the most support.

Six weeks before the crucial September 18 vote, Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling MP clashed in a live televised debate on the independence referendum. The duo touched on issues from whether an independent Scotland would keep the pound to the future of North Sea oil revenues. Based on a Guardian/ICM poll, Darling of the Better Together campaign emerged as the winner.

Speaking at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, Mr Darling said: "Any eight-year-old can tell you the flag of a country, the capital of a country and its currency.

"I presume the flag is the saltire, I assume our capital will still be Edinburgh, but you can't tell us what currency we will have."

"We'll keep the pound because it belongs to Scotland as much as to England."

But Mr Salmond insisted: "No-one will ever govern Scotland better than the people who live and work in Scotland ... voting yes is a vote for hope and ambition over fear."

Despite the televised debate, based on the latest survey from Ipsos MORI, more Scottish are planning to vote YES for an independent Scotland when the referendum takes place next month.
