CCTV cameras have been installed in Hemswell Cliff, a northern Lincolnshire village that has been blighted by crime and anti-social behaviour in recent years.
The cameras, which are designed to record footage 24 hours a day, are monitored by West Lindsay District Council. CCTV footage can be used to support any police or council-led investigations. The cameras have privacy protection to make sure only public areas can be monitored.
Hemswell Cliff Parish Council chairman Graham Prestwood has welcomed the move saying that CCTV cameras will play a crucial role in creating a safer community for residents.
He explained: "The addition of the CCTV cameras is gratefully received and welcomed. We hope and believe it will play a large part in our efforts to reduce the crime and anti-social behaviour which has blighted the village in recent years.”
"It gives residents the ability to report crimes and anti-social behaviour anonymously without the need to give the all-important evidence, we hope that in most cases this can now be provided by the CCTV.
Councillor Trevor Young, added: "We have listened to the needs of residents in Hemswell Cliff and we are pleased that we have been able to provide CCTV coverage for them.
