Health benefits of the seaside revealed
12:12 20 April 2012
The Victorians widely believed in the health benefits of a bit of sea air, but now experts are catching on, saying that living by and visiting the seaside can actually improve our mood.
According to recent research by the European Centre for Environment and Human Health in Cornwall, just a walk along the beach could be enough to boost our wellbeing.
The study, which was carried out over two years, discovered that a seaside amble has a bigger impact on our health than a stroll in the park.
The sun doesn't even need to be shining for you to feel energised, as it's the engagement with with natural environment that stimulates the mind.
Life coach Sophia Davis has championed the research, telling HuffPost Lifestyle:
"The reason people feel better after being by the sea in comparison to an urban park, is because of the energy. The energy around an urban park is very dense because of the cars and volume of people.
"The sea environment is a totally different ball game because in addition to the fact that water is obviously very cleansing, it is also combined with the elements of the air, the sun and the earth which are all extremely healing and powerful."
