David Hasselhoff is set to return to the car that made him a star, and lead a Big Screen version of "Knight Rider".
The legendary "Baywatch" lifeguard and former crooning pop star has been in talks regarding a move to take the series to the cinema for some time, and it now appears as though his dream will reach fruition.
Once-mulletted Hasselhoff is set to produce and star in the film, but he will not be getting behind the wheel of the talking K.I.T.T car.
Instead, Hasselhoff - as series lead Michael Knight - will step upstairs in the film to take the role of Devon Miles in the TV series, and run the show from the top.
Ben Stiller is reported to be the top choice to play Knight's son and K.I.T.T's new driver, taking over the family business from his dad for the film.
But Hasselhoff wants to keep the feel of the film as close as possible to the original, and does not want to turn it into a spoof in the "Starsky and Hutch" ilk.
"I think "Knight Rider" deserves a shot at something serious," Hasselhoff told the Metro newspaper recently.
"I'd like it to be the old voice, William Daniels. He was very much responsible for the success of the show. It had three components: heart, humour and action. Michael was the heart, the humour was the car, and the action was the stunts."
