Hartlepool Council to Livestream Meetings?
Hartlepool Borough Council to decide whether or not to livestream their meetings.
07:39 21 February 2020
Currently, the council meetings are recorded on video camera and uploaded on the council website afterwards.
Council chief executive Gill Alexander said that it would be better to switch to live streaming on YouTube as it is more cost-effective.
He said: “This would probably be a more cost effective use of staff time to do it this way than the way we do it currently, because it’s actually quite a big job for the communications team.”
Coun Shane Moore, council leader, said that the cost was not the sole determining factor. He said: “It’s whether members think that’s worth investing in or whether they are happy with the current system that we have of recording meetings and putting them onto the website after.”
Councillors have previously considered switching to live streaming but the plans were scrapped at the time it was considered to be cost prohibitive. However, changes in technology now means they only have to pay a one-time fee of £250 to provide the service online.
