Hart District Council, which currently deals with around 600 incidents of fly tipping a year, has installed CCTV cameras in some of the most frequently dumped areas to catch fly-tippers and aid with prosecutions.
Cllr Sara Kinnell, Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, said: “Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and one that is an ongoing problem for Hart District Council. Its impact upon the quality of our environment is damaging and immediately visible.
"I believe that the measures we’ve put in place demonstrate that the Council will not tolerate this behaviour.
"We are not afraid to use the powers available to us, to take enforcement action that is appropriate and effective against any individual caught committing this abhorrent offence”.
Councillor Peter O'Donovan, Chairman of the Environment and Safe Communities Committee said: “We will always prosecute where we find evidence that someone has fly-tipped waste.
“Illegal carriers are a major source of fly tipping. We would like to remind people that they must ensure that the person taking their waste away is licensed for such activity.
"Failing to do so means they are breaking the law and will face a fine or even criminal prosecution along with the fly tippers.”
