Pong, Doom, and Super Mario Bros have all been inducted into the new World Video Game Hall of Fame. Other games that made it to the list include Pac-Man, Tetris, and World of Warcraft. All games are to be featured at The Strong museum in Rochester, New York.
The games, which were selected by scholars, journalists, and industry experts, were picked due to their impact on the video games industry, culture, and society.
Pong was launched in 1972 while Doom was introduced in 1993. Both were warmly accepted by game players. However, it was Mario Bros. that ended up to be one of the most iconic games of all time, played by players of all ages for decades.
While Russian import Tetris was launched in 1984, it is still played today on various platforms. Pac-Man hit the arcade in 1980 while World of Warcraft revolutionised online gaming since its 2004 launch.
Meanwhile, some of the finalist that did not make the cut include Angry Birds, FIFA, The Legend of Zelda, Minecraft, The Oregon Trail, Pokemon, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Space Invaders.
