Gwynedd Free Wifi

Between 10 and 15 villages and market towns in Gwynedd to have free WiFi under new Gwynedd WiFi scheme.

Gwynedd Council has announced the Digital Gwynedd: Public Access WiFi project that aims to bring free WiFi service to up to 15 villages and market towns in the area. The project is made possible by funding from the Rural Communities Development Fund.

 

Cllr Ioan Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet member for economic development said: “The Council is eager to ensure that Gwynedd residents have convenient access to new technology and the internet.

 

“It is therefore pleasing that this exciting scheme offers the chance for between 10 and 15 villages and market towns in Gwynedd to establish networks that would enable them to offer free wifi access to the public.

 

“The schemes would be led on a community-basis and would offer services to visitors and residents in appropriate areas, such as the high street, tourist attractions – these would be decided locally based on the community priorities.

 

“The project aims to ensure that Gwynedd’s communities are more inclusive, sustainable and prosperous, ensuring that everyone, including residents and visitors to the area are able to enjoy the benefits of access to the internet.”

 

Community heads interested in this great opportunity are invited to attend an information session on 15 May at Y Ganolfan, Porthmadog.
