Manchester is a pioneering city that never stops innovating and has become an emerging hotspot for companies specialising in cyber security. Home to companies, such as the NCC Group, Avecto, Hedgehog and Secarma, it has been chosen by the UK’s Government Communications HQ as the site for its new centre that will be using cutting-edge technology to identify and disrupt threats to the UK.
Manchester’s success in providing cyber security solutions is due to the academic strength of its world-leading universities that attract top technology talent as well as large corporations, including Barclays, the BBC and BNY Mellon.
Greater Manchester’s diverse ecosystem, which include the country’s largest professional and financial services sector, a vibrant e-commerce hubs, digitally-enabled health and social care and state-of-the-art industrial base offer cyber companies the wealth of opportunities, including access to world-class talents, research and expertise.
The city refuses to rest on its laurels and continuously implement initiatives to ensure that it stays at the forefront of information security and research. The initiatives include the new £10million Greater Cyber Innovation Centre designed to facilitate the growth of cyber security businesses in the region and the £6million Cyber Foundry, an ERDF funded initiative designed to encourage engagement between a range of businesses on cyber innovation research.
