The Greater Manchester Digital Blueprint was launched last week highlighting stories of how technology helps improve the lives of people – ranging from those who find it challenging to find jobs to those dealing with isolation and loneliness.
Leader of Stockport Council Elise Wilson said that the blueprint’s vision is to place people at the heart of the digital ambition. This is supported by a panel on empowering people who are looking for ways on how innovation and technology can be used in resolving challenges revolving around school readiness, digital inclusion, social mobility and loneliness and isolation.
Community leaders - including Ryan McMurdo of StartPoint in Stockport; Kirsty Devlin, head of Recode UK; and Bernadette Elder, CEO of Inspiring Communities Together – highlighted heartwarming stories on how unemployed individuals were able to find jobs and how isolated individuals were able to form a community and find support through technology.
GM Metro Mayor Andy Burnham said that Manchester is the biggest digital cluster outside London and that the success of the digital blueprint can only be achieved through absolute ‘collaboration, co-operation and solidarity’.
