The Google Home Mini is now the Google Nest Mini. The name change follows Google Home Hub becoming the Google Nest Hub. The Google Nest Mini is largely the same £49 Google Assistant-powered smart speaker and offers the most affordable way of using Google Assistant as compared to buying the Amazon Echo Dot.
The Google Home and Nest Minis have the same design. They are puck-like speaker with curved sides, measuring 1.64 by 3.85 inches. Four LEDs sit in the middle of the top panel and two more sit under the edge of the fabric on either side of the array and control the speaker’s volume.
You can activate the device by simply saying “Ok, Google” Or “Hey, Google” followed by a question or a command. The four LEDS will light up to indicate it is listening to your voice. It then answers any questions, from weather to sports to unit conversations to cooking recipes. It also plays music from Google Play Music, YouTube, Deezer, Spotify and Pandora.
As for its performance, it does not have more bass power as Google claims. Based on tests, some songs distort at maximum volumes and doesn’t get particularly loud. However, when compared to the Echo Dot, it does sound a bit fuller and more powerful at reproducing low frequencies.
