Glasgow has grown from being an industrial powerhouse to being recognised as one of tech heavyweights not just in the United Kingdom but also around the globe. With growing investments and spinout companies cropping up in numbers, Scotland’s second largest city is expected to see continued growth in years to come.
Glasgow represents a range of sectors – from space technology companies to social networking and e-commerce. It is now home to notable businesses, including Alba Orbital, Clyde Space, Brightree, Hewlett-Packard and JP Morgan, among others.
Glasgow is also an ideal city for start-up companies. The city has been chosen by 331 start-up companies as it takes every measure for businesses to prosper. Start-ups and entrepreneurs have great support with companies such as Creative Clyde helping to promote the creative industries in the city, while there are regular meet-ups, which include Maklab, Glasgow PHP and Code Craft.
Glasgow is not resting on its laurels despite being chosen as the European Entrepreneurial of 2016. In fact, it has gone from strength to strength since then and saw the creation of a brand new tech festival called Techaus and developed a new co-working space by the name of Think Tank. In addition, the city is home to thousands of skilled graduates and tech enthusiasts.
