Glasgow Police Function Remotely

Police officers in Glasgow now uses new mobile technology that allows them to carry out functions remotely.

A £21million Mobile Working Project now sees police officers in Glasgow using a new mobile technology that enables them to carry out specific functions, such as checking warrants and notes, remotely. As a result, they can spend more time in communities and less time doing administrative work in the station.

 

 

Chief Inspector Martin Gallagher said that the move is the “one of the best things to have happened in the last 25 years.”

 

 

He explained: “It allows officers to be more visible and out about in communities more.”

 

 

“They have access to the Police national computer, can do warrant checks and check bail conditions and see images.”

 

 

“It means they do not need to come back to the station and find a desk top computer.”

 

 

“It is a big a change when police were issued with radios in the 1940s instead of using a police box.”

 

 

Sergeant Lorna Watson, who uses the technology on shift, said: “It is a lot better. You need to make fewer trips back to the office.”

 

 

“Communities want to see police more and this allows up to spend more time on the streets.”
