Education institutes worldwide are now being forced to be more creative as they find ways on how to educate students at home amidst the Covid-19 global pandemic. They are slowly coming to terms with the shift to remote teaching in a bid to adhere to the government’s stern guidelines on social distancing.
Glasgow Clyde College is currently using Discord, a platform that allows users to join via a multitude of devices, including PS4 and Xbox. However, it also provides assistance to students who currently do not have the necessary IT equipment or needed technology to ensure that they remain engaged with their studies during these challenging times.
The college is also using various platforms to reach out to students, such as WhatsApp for business and SMS message delivery system, both of which have elicited excellent response rates.
Faced with the reality that it is highly unlikely that students will be able to come back soon to classrooms, educational institutions must focus on the opportunities that we are presented and find creative ways to engage students to learn while they are staying at home.
