Glasgow Clyde College (GCC) has recently built an electric vehicle charging point for its automotive engineering workshops. The initiative, which is part of the institution's pledge to become net zero by 2040, aims to provide students with hands-on training on the increasingly popular technology.
Curriculum manager for electrical and electronic engineering at GCC Barry Faichnie said: “We’re excited to introduce electric charging points in our workshops. They offer students invaluable, practical exposure to electric vehicle technology, which is becoming increasingly important in the automotive industry.
“By equipping students with skills and knowledge in the latest technology, we’re confident that we’re helping them to be more competitive in the job market after qualifying.”
“It’s also important to us that we continue to strive to make positive changes in the eco-space, both as part of our commercial courses but also across the college as a whole,” Faichnie added.
The introduction of the electric vehicle charging point comes after Glasgow's recent launch of a low-emission zone, where only vehicles meeting certain pollution standards can enter the city centre.
