Glasgow Airport Supports Drone Scheme

Government-funded 5G trials on driverless taxis and robot to take place at Stadium MK.

Milton Keynes 5G project, a government-funded scheme that aims to explore the application of 5G in various fields, will include driverless road vehicles, drones and robots. The drones will be tested in an event security capacity while robots will be used for goods delivery. 

 

Mk Dons director John Cove said: "We are delighted that the MK 5G Create project has been selected to receive support from the DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport). We have been able to bring together a world class team to integrate and exploit 5G capacity in a dynamic real world environment - this will truly demonstrate how Stadium MK home of MK Dons, working with MK Council and our partners can use new technology to support a major international sporting and cultural venue."

 

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has launched 5G create, a competition for local government units and organisations with projects designed to test the effectiveness of the next-generation network in a number of environments, including creative industries, logistics, construction, sports and tourism. 

 

Milton Keynes was selected partly because of its 30,000 capacity stadium that provides a great testing ground for futuristic experiments. The project received £2, 397,243 government funding.
