Gigabit Broadband for 1 in 7 Premises in UK
ThinkBroadband says 1 in 7 premises in the United Kingdom now has gigabit broadband option.

ThinkBroadband has recently added a Gigabit availability figure to its broadband stats site to track the progress of a government’s scheme that promises 100per cent gigabit availability by the end of 2025. The scheme also aims to help UK residents determine what is currently available in their area in terms of broadband service.
The broadband think tank has recently mapped areas in Southampton, Reading and Manchester following the launch of Virgin Media Gig 1 in the areas. The initiative aims to determine which areas have the 1104 Mbps option and which do not. The coverage figures do not include Gig1 in Birmingham and Coventry areas since Virgin Media is yet to release the list of places the scheme will cover.
The gigabit tracking does not take into account the overlap between full fibre and gigabit coverage and some Virgin Media services already counted in the FTTP figures as they are delivered using RFOG (fibre to the building then a final few centimetres of coax to connect the modem/set top box).
The 16 local authority areas with over 50per cent coverage of Gigabit are City of Kingston upon Hall, Reading, City of Southampton, Bolton Distric, Warrington, Belfast, Trafford District, Wokingham, Salford District, Bracknell Forest, Milton Keynes, York, Tameside District, Berkshire, and Lisburn and Castlereagh.
