After much speculation, Manchester United football club has confirmed that manager David Moyes has been axed.
A statement on MUFC's official website stated: "Manchester United has announced that David Moyes has left the Club.
"The Club would like to place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role."
Replacing him is 40-year-old veteran player Ryan Giggs who has been loyal to the club since the 1990 season.
Moyes got the news of his departure on Tuesday morning at the club's Carrington training ground.
It came in the immediate aftermath of United's 2-0 loss to Moyes' old club Everton. This was the final straw for United as the loss meant that the Premier League champs stood no chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
It's a sharp contrast to Moyes' start in which he was handpicked by Sir Alex Ferguson to take over the reigns via an exclusive six-year contract.
While Giggs is manager for the time being, some are speculating that Borussia Dotmund manager Jurgen Klopp or Dutch national manager Louis van Gaal are being lined up as possible permanent replacements.
