From foldable screens to 5G and groundbreaking cameras, there are some incredible phones entering the market. Here are our top picks for 2020.
Motorola Razr
One of the most exciting phones about to be unleashed on the market is the Motorola Razr. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because it’s not entirely new. Indeed, the Motorola Razr was, at a point, one of the most popular phones available to purchase. This was long before the introduction of the iPhone. It was during a time when the flip phone was still king and this year, Motorola is hoping to regain their former glory.
The new Motorola Razr is a flip, clam phone for the modern age. On the surface, it has a similar design to the original phone. However, inside, things are quite different, when the phone does open up, it reveals a seamless fold screen that provides a beautiful HD display. The outside case also provides another screen that can be used for quick commands and to take selfies. Ultimately, this phone is on the list because it is the first clam design folding-screen phone. However, there are a few points to be aware of.
First, there’s the price. The phone will cost approximately £1200 and that’s quite expensive. Particularly, when you consider that a lot of the tech from the camera to the battery and even the chip is not cutting edge. Essentially, you’re paying a high price for innovative design. This phone is the epitome of style over substance. However, if you love the retro style and long for something more unique than the cookie-cutter rectangular phones, this could be a great choice for you. That price is also easier to handle when you opt for a contract and these are available without credit checks.
iPhone 12
It’s not been long since Apple released the iPhone 11, but already we are hearing new information about the upcoming iPhone 12. One of the rumors that have been circulating is that Apple is going to introduce 5G with the iPhone 12. There are a number of reasons why Apple hasn’t already joined with this trend like some of its competitors such as needing to perfect other services before adding a new one, and the fact that their relationship with Qualcomm, the leading 5G provider was severed due to disagreements. Apple and Qualcomm are now working together again, so now could be the time they are ready to join the 5G market.
Another interesting rumour about the iPhone 12 is that it could have a new time-of-flight camera on the back of the phone. Using the same kind of set up used for Face ID with slightly different technology, this could allow the phone to map 3D objects from further away. This will bring a whole new level to Portrait Mode on the camera, and mean that the augmented reality applications will be improved dramatically.
More rumours suggest that the iphone 12 will provide something truly incredible with a built in projector system. This honestly sounds like a pipe dream and has been talked about for years. One of the concepts is that the phone could project a working keyboard onto a flat surface. If anyone is about to unveil this tech, it’s probably going to be Apple but it could still be a couple years off yet.
The notch is also expected to be removed completely with a behind the screen camera and speaker. As such, you might be able to expect a completely seamless screen with absolutely no breakpoints.
Huawei P40 Pro
The real hype for this phone comes from the camera. In fact, Huawei could be the first phone manufacturer to create a mobile with a 10x optical zoom. From photos shown by a known leaker online, it would appear that this phone has 5 sensors on the back contained in a rectangular module. As well as this, the rear camera will also come with a 52 megapixel Sony IMX700 sensor. It is thought that this means the camera will have a better low light image quality than other phones on the market.
Of course, one of the most interesting rumours surrounding this particular phone is the battery. Reports suggest that it will have one of the largest and most powerful batteries ever produced for a phone. Could the days where a phone lasts just a couple of days on a single charge finally be behind us?
Do any of these phones pique your interest? One thing is certain, there are certainly some interesting models entering the market this year.
