Gadgets Every Kid Needs
20:34 06 March 2021
Given the important and often integral part in plays in our lives, it’s not surprising really that we are living in a day and age when there are so many different pieces of technology and gadgets available.
If you are a parent, your children may already be aware of different gadgets and gizmos, especially if they are at school and learning and using different devices as part of their education.
Are you facing the dilemma of not wanting to deprive your kids, but also wanting to use a bit of balance, because you don’t want to spoil them with regards to the gadgets and tech you buy them?
If you are not sure what you should and shouldn’t get and find it all a bit overwhelming, we’re here to help. In the following post, we are going to highlight some of the pieces of tech and gadgets that are worth investing in for kids.
Tablet
Whether you are an Apple enthusiast or prefer Android devices, one thing you should definitely consider investing in for your little one is a tablet.
Rather than just seeing it as a type of distraction for them, so that you get a little peace and quiet from time to time, consider the entertainment and educational benefits of a handheld tablet. If they are already using one in school, having one at home may help them to get more out of what they are learning.
As a tablet offers a connection to the internet and lots of learning-focused apps, you can supplement the work they are doing at school with fun and interactive activities.
Perhaps you only have one television in the house and are not ready yet to allow them one in their own room, because they are too young.
Do you often have issues where you want to watch something at the same time they do? Rather than always giving in to them or stopping them from watching what they want to watch, a tablet offers an alternative solution, so they can watch something on their device, while you watch something on the TV.
Headphones
Even before modern technology like video games, smartphones, and tablets, parents have had the problem of dealing with children’s toys that make irritating and repetitive noises. You don’t want to deprive them of it, but there comes a time when you reach the point where you need to put it away and they need to play with something else.
The same can be said for their modern technology-driven toys and gadgets. In the case of tablets, for instance, it may be fascinating to your child what they are learning or hilarious fun watching their favorite cartoon but maybe a headache waiting to happen for you. That’s why it’s important to find safe, comfortable, and quality headphones for young kids.
eBook Reader
Books and reading are an important part of your child’s development and also allow them to escape to fantastic worlds and other dimensions.
An eBook reader is a great gadget to invest in as not only is it easier on their eyes than traditional mobile handset screens, but also saves you some space in your home, where if you didn’t have one you would have to keep all those books to keep your children entertained.
Smart Speaker/AI
One of the great things about children is their inquisitive nature. However, when you are trying to do a hundred other things at the same time while answering their questions about history or geography, it can get a little wearing.
That’s where a smart speaker or AI device comes in handy. Your child can ask them questions, and, within reason, they will be able to find an answer. They are also good for setting timers and alarms that will help your children remember when they should be doing things like chores and homework.
Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
Does your child enjoy music and listening to audiobooks? Want to get them their own device that they can have in their room, so they don’t disturb the rest of the household? Invest in a wireless Bluetooth speaker.
That way, they can connect to your audio and audiobook streaming accounts and listen to their favorite tunes and stories from the comfort of their own room.
Smart Watch
Although we are not suggesting that something like the Apple Watch will be appropriate for every parent’s budget, we are suggesting that there are plenty of other less expensive versions of smartwatches that are just as practical, cool, and a lot of fun to use. Depending on how old your child is, they can be useful as they can call people, like you or their grandparents.
You can monitor the contacts list and they also tend to come with some kind of location tracker that means even when your child is not directly in your sights, you still know where they are and if they are where they should be.
Smart Night Light
Have you noticed that most gadgets, even those designed with kids in mind, are prefixed with the word smart these days? You can get smart night lights if your children have trouble getting to sleep at night or are not fond (or even scared) of the dark.
Just be careful, as some of them come with so many different settings, your child will not only be okay with bedtime but may spend so much time messing around with their night light that they stay awake longer than you would like.
Kid-Friendly Camera
If your child enjoys taking pictures with their tablet or your phone and you want something a bit safer and more compact that they can take out with them when they are playing with friends, on holiday or day trips, and visits to relatives, why not invest in a kid-friendly camera.
There are a lot available these days with more durable and robust designs and easy-to-use functionality. You don’t even need to spend too much. Who knows, it may even be the first step they take to having a successful photography business in later life?
