Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) is set to develop a 5G-enabled digital centre in North Nottinghamshire after it successfully secured funding from the UK Government.
The funding, which is part of the £900million Getting Building Fund of the UK Government, will be used to build the council's Digital Turbine Centre in Worksop in cooperation with mayors and local enterprises. The scheme is designed to expedite the delivery of shovel-ready infrastructure projects and ramp up economic growth.
NCC's bid for funding was approved after its proposal for the 5G-enabled digital centre was evaluated and supported by the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
Nottinghamshire County Council Deputy Leader Reg Adair said: "We are delighted that this project will move towards its next stage thanks to this successful bid.
"Now more than ever, developments like these will help boost post-pandemic economic growth for Nottinghamshire by providing a hub where skills, innovation and businesses can really thrive."
