Fully Electric Vehicles for Greater Manchester Hospitals
Northern Care Alliance to take part in a trial involving fully electric trucks.
15:43 01 July 2022
The Northern Care Alliance has become the first NHS organisation to get fully electric vehicles.
The alliance, which runs four hospitals in Greater Manchester, has been chosen to take part in a year-long trial involving two fully electric heavy goods vehicles used by the NHS group. The vehicles will be used to transport essential supplies, laundry and equipment between Fairfield General, Salford Royal, Rochdale Infirmary and Royal Oldham.
NCA chief executive Dr Owen Williams OBE said: "We’re incredibly excited to be part of this pilot to try new things and discover what these technologies can do for us, as well as move us away from high levels of emissions being brought through our sites and neighbouring communities every day, towards a much cleaner, greener solution that will benefit not only our patients but our staff, visitors and local communities too. It’s not just the environmental impact that matters, these plans, technologies and trials work to deliver improved patient care, save lives, improve lives, and reduce costs and waste."
Heidi Barnard, NCA group of sustainability, said:" It's about trying something new and trying to understand whether this trial can be part of the solution for what we need to deliver."
